Mary Magdalene. Women in the Church.
Synopsis
Why did Jesus first appear to a woman? She is Mary Magdalene, the first to arrive at the tomb and, finding it empty, proclaim the resurrection. A documentary that reconstructs the at times controversial relationship between women and the Church. Rome, 1964: for the first time ever Paul VI opens the doors of the Second Vatican Council to 23 women who will take part as silent auditors, dressed in black, with veils on their heads. Thirty years later, in his apostolic letter Ordenatio Sacerdotalis, John Paul II definitively forbids women from becoming priests.
